Also, to the many Civilians who supported them during their term of duty in North Yorkshire. | Reason for Aircraft Loss | Called base on R/T two hours into the sortie to advise that the port outer engine had failed. Requested immediate landing authorisation. The aircraft made its approach but then climbed to go round again, whereupon the port inner also failed and the aircraft plunged into the ground between Exelby and Londonderry, bursting into flames. The pilot was killed immediately but the others were pulled from the wreckage, gravely injured. Three died within hours. |
