| Memorial Text | B Flight of 12 Squadron Royal Air Force were on detachment to Tollerton while converting to the vickers Wellington. On the 8th February two bombers left the base on a sortie to familiarise all the crew with using both front and rear gun turrets. W5365 returned first and on approach to the airfield the aircraft dived to the ground twice. Each time the pilot regained control but the aircraft had lost a great deal of height and on passing through some trees it struck the oak tree. The wings were torn off and the fuselage split in half. Farm workers quickly arrived and with disregard for their own safety took little notice of the fumes from the fuel tanks now laying open and helped the crew the best they could / To the memory of the crew of Wellington MK II W5365 which struck the oak tree at 12:20 on Saturday 8th Febuary 1941 The led the field |
