Miscellaneous Information
Francis was born on 29 June 1920 at Capstick, Victoria County, Nova Scotia. His father was born at Capstick and his mother at Bay Road Valley, Nova Scotia. His father had a farm. He attended Capstick Schools, 1926-1934 and 1934-1937. He then took a one month course in the Co-operative Movement at St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish. His sport interests were hunting, swimming and skating and his hobby was working on motor boat engines. Francis mainly worked for his father 1937-1939 where he was postmaster’s assistant as well as doing farm work and fishing. He was also involved in Harbour, Deck and assistant cook work for J. Porter & Son’s at Dingwall. |
He enlisted on 17 July 1940 and after training was sent to the U.K. He arrived at 3PRC on 7 June 1941 and went on to 21 OTU 14 June 1941 and 149 Squadron 13 September 1941. Sadly, Francis was to lose his life the following month on 20 October 1941. |
