Miscellaneous Information
Herbert was born on 11 June 1915 in Holywell, Wales. His father, deceased, was born in Liverpool and had worked as a painter and his mother had been born in Bristol, England. He had attended several different schools between 1920 and 1930 whilst in England and then he went to Simcoe High School, 1930-1933 when the family moved to Canada. The main sport he took part in was skating and his hobby was painting. As he was a partner in a painting business he worked for himself 1933-1939. When the partnership broke up he then worked for A.M. Chaloner as a painter in Burlington, Ontario 1939-1940. |
Herbert enlisted on 25 April 1941 and after training arrived in the U.K. at 3 PRC on 20 February 1942. He then passed through 2(0)AFU on 21 March 1942, 22 OTU 28 April 1942 and 419 Squadron on 16 July 1942. Very shortly after arriving Herbert sadly lost his life on 29 July 1942 |
