Miscellaneous Information
Alfred was born at Humboldt, Saskatchewan on 4 November 1915. Both parents were born in the USA in St. Cloud and his father, deceased, had been a farmer. His mother re-married a Mr. Betnar. He had two brothers, Anthony and Clements Britts as well as four sisters, Annie, Rosie, Margaret and Beatrice. He also had two step-sisters William and Agnes Betnar. He went to school at Taylor Public 1923-1929 (grade 8) then 1930-1933 (grades 9 and 10). Alfred also took a Correspondence Course at the Department of Education 1936-1938 on Diesel Engineering and Lewis Hotel training 1938-1941. Alfred’s sport interests were tennis, baseball, softball, golf and table tennis. He worked as a hardware and lumber clerk between 1934-1936 at the Beaver Lumber Co. and then as a Hotel clerk at the Lewis Hotel, 1936-1941 until he enlisted in January 1941. |
After enlisting on 6 June 1941 and completing his training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 16 May 1943. After arrival at 3 PRC on 24 May he went on to 10 (0) AFU 17 August, 24 OTU 21 September 1943, 61 Base 10 January 1944, 419 Squadron 28 February 1944 and 405 Squadron 30 April 1944. Alfred lost his life on 21 July 1944. |
He appears to have changed the spelling of his surname when he enlisted. |
