Miscellaneous Information
Charles was born on 4 October 1916 at Coles Island, New Brunswick. His father was born at Coles Island and worked as a Lumberman Operator and his mother was born at Manchester, New Hampshire, USA. He had a sister Lily and four brothers. He attended Phillipstown school 1923-1933, Coles Island Superior 1933-1936 (Jnr Matric) and Fredericton Normal school 1937-1938 where he gained a First and Superior class teacher licence. The sports he was interested in were swimming, skiing, and skating and he enjoyed horseback riding. His hobby was collecting curios. Between 1936-1938 Charles was unemployed but he then went to Cox’s Point School, Cumberland Bay, New Brunswick 1938-1939, where he was a teacher followed by Springfield School, Springfield also as a teacher, 1939-1940. He then joined the St. John Fusiliers where he spent eight months service during 1940-1941. |
Charles enlisted on 8 October 1941 and after training embarked from Canada for the U.K. on 28 October 1942. He arrived at 3PRC on 6 November 1942 and was then at 22 OTU on 24 November 1942 and 427 Squadron on 15 March 1943. Sadly two weeks later, Charles lost his life on 30 March 1943. |
