Reason for Loss | Over the target, (the German battleship Scharnhorst in harbour at La Pallice) the Halifax was engaged by Bf109's and flak, the bomb doors failed to open but as the aircraft flew south from the target the doors were opened over a destroyer and the bomb load dropped but no results were seen. The aircraft was hit by flak and the wireless operator Sgt Bolton was killed instantly. |
