In de vroege ochtend van 18 Juni 1941 keerde de Armstrong Whitworth Whitley bommenwerper N1462, GE-V van het 58 Sqn RAF niet terug van een bombardementsmissie op een doel bij Keulen. Boven Eindhoven werd het vliegtuig onderschept en aangevallen door een Duitse nachtjager en storte vervolgens neer vlak bij deze locatie. Vier jonge bemanningsleden verloren hierbij hun leven.
Translation "In the early morning of June 18th 1941, Armstrong Whitworth Whitley bomber N1462, GE-V of 58 Sqn RAF, failed to return from a bombing operation on a target near Cologne. Over Eindhoven the aircraft was intercepted and attacked by a German nightfighter and crashed close to this location. Four young crewmembers lost their lives" |
