Miscellaneous Information
Peter was born at Bristol, England on 16 July 1920. His parents were both born in Bristol, England and his father works as a railroad station Agent. The family emigrated to North America in 1925 and ten years later settled in Monongahela, Pennsylvania, USA. He had two siblings, Barrie Spence b1925 and Barbara b1929. The schools he attended were Oakville Public School, Hopedale, Ontario 1926-1934 (primary subjects); Mount Lebanon Public School , Pennsylvania and Monongahela High School 1935-1939 (Scientific) and Pittsburgh Institute, 1941-1942, (Aeronautics). The sports he took part in were tennis and skiing and his hobby was photography. Peter worked at the Monongahela Publishing Company as the sports editor of The Daily Republican from 1939 until enlisting on 7 April 1942. |
He joined the RCAF after being refused by the Americans because he was a British citizen. After training , he embarked for the U.K. and arrived at 3PRC on 2 July 1943. He then went on to 18 (P) AFU 18 August 1943, 12 OTU 14 December 1943, 31 Base on 17 March 1944 and then 115 Squadron 11 June 1944. Peter sadly lost his life on 17 September 1944. |
