Miscellaneous Information
W/O R H Barratt slipped way from his POW camp (possibly Stalag 344) sometimes towards the end of 1944 and made his way to Budapest (Hungary). Arrested by the Russians at Szarus on 24 December 1944. He was known to have been in their hands on 8 June 1945. Allegedly seen from time to time thereafter he never returned to England and to his wife. He was one of the 690 members of the Allied forces who, as at 11 August 1945, had 'not been recovered or accounted for' (Footprints on the Sands of Time - Oliver Clutton-Brock) |
