Miscellaneous Information
Joseph was born on the 6th of February 1921 in Montreal. Some of his schooling was at Notre Dame du Rosaire school between the ages of 12-15 and the Sullivan Business college on a commercial course between 1936 and 1938. Between 15 August 1938 and 1st April 1942 Joseph worked as a salesman at A B Caya Ltd who dealt in Upholstery (fabrics). |
He enlisted on 22 May 1942. After training in Canada, Joseph disembarked in the U.K. on 17th March 1943 and went through 3 PRC, 410 Sqn, ACRC, 14 ITU, 1 EAGS, 82 OTU, 1661 Conversion Unit until finally arriving at 428 Squadron. On 22 October 1944 Joseph married Jean Olive (née Yeoman) in Epsom, Surrey, England |
Joseph enjoyed sports which included hockey, shooting, swimming, boxing, horse riding and he even had a speed boat. |

Operation | Dusseldorf. 992 aircraft, 19 losses- 4 of which crashed behind Allied lines (0.4%). Most of the bombing fell on the northern suburbs with more than 5000 houses being destroyed . 7 industrial premises were destroyed and 18 seriously damaged, including some important steel works. At least 678 people were killed. This was the last significant raid on Düsseldorf. |
