Miscellaneous Information
John was born on 21 November 1914. Both parents were born in Quebec but his mother died in 1930 and his father in 1936. John then went to live with his brother, Gerald who worked as a nursery man. Apart from his brother Gerald Joseph who was born in Carman, he had three married sisters, a half brother Leo Aubin, and a married half sister. John attended Maison Chapel School 1921-1927 and the Sacred Heart 1927-1929 (General Course),then Provencher 1929-1933 (Jnr. Matric) and then the University of Manitoba 1933-1937 where he attained a B.S.A. Degree in Agriculture. John spent 1936 working in horticulture, then another four years at Aubin Nursery, Carman, also in horticulture, ending at the Manitoba Sugar Beet Co. in Winnipeg, 1940-1942 as a Fieldman. |
On 12 January 1942 John enlisted in Winnipeg and after initial training embarked for the U.K. on 26 January 1943. Arriving in England on 4 February 1943 he then went to 3 PRC and 20 OTU on 1 March 1943, 1652 CU 4 June and then 158 Squadron on 16 July 1943. He was killed two months later. |
His sporting interests were volley ball and curling. |

Operation | Hanover- the first of four large raids. 711 aircraft, 26 losses (3.7%). Five American B-17s also took part. Visibility was good but strong winds hampered the marking efforts and consequently the bombing by the main force. No local report is available but it is unlikely that significant damage was caused. |
