Miscellaneous Information
Joseph was born on 4 January 1922 in L’Epiphanie ,Quebec. His mother died in 1925 when Joseph was only three years old. His father re-married Marguerite, five years later. He had sisters Gertrude, Germaine, and Edna and a brother, Leo. Joseph went to school at St Remi -de-Napierville, Quebec 1937-1938 equivalent to one year High School Entrance Grade 8 and also studied a Commercial course at Technical school. He worked as a labourer for four years and was with Defence Industries Ltd., St.Paul, L’Ermite before enlisting. |
He enlisted on 17 June 1941 and after training embarked for the U.K. on 28 October 1942. He was at 3 PRC on 6 November, 23 OTU 8 December 1942, 1659 CU 25 March 1943 and 498 Squadron on 11 April 1943. |
He enjoyed skating. |

Operation | Krefeld. 705 aircraft, 44 losses (6.2%) with night-fighters counting for most of the losses (the night was moonlit). PFF marking was near-perfect (using Oboe). A large fire in the centre of Krefeld raged unchecked for many hours. Over 5500 houses destroyed, 1056 people killed and 72000 bombed out of their homes. |
Reason for Loss | Shot down by Hptm. Hans-Dieter Frank of 2/NJG1 and crashed at Koelaan/Kouwenhovenselaan Zeist, Utrecht, Netherlands. This was his 38th claim overall and his 5th of the night. |
