Miscellaneous Information
Edward was born at Winnipeg, Manitoba on 2 January 1917. His father was born in England and was a Scale Inspector for C.N.R. His mother was born in Chesley, Ontario. He had one sister, Alice Elizabeth. His schooling was at: Greenway School 1924-1930, Daniel McIntyre 1930-1934, University of Manitoba 1934-1938 (B.Sc.) and University of Chicago 1938-1940. Between 1936-1937 Edward was a student demonstrator at Manitoba University. He was then a labourer for C.N.R. between 1937-1938 and then working as a chemist for Canada Packers Ltd. from 1938 onwards until enlistment. His sport interests were hockey, basketball and swimming and his hobbies amateur radio and photography. |
After enlisting on 26 November 1941 and undergoing initial training he embarked from New York on 23 November 1942 and arrived at 3RCAF(PRC) on 1 December 1942. His training included a spell in North Africa. He returned to the U.K. in October 1943, arriving at 420 Sqn on 6 November 1943, then to 62 Base on 12 December 1943 and fianlly back to 420 Squadron on 15 February 1944. |
