Miscellaneous Information
Harry was born on 7 October 1914. . Ira was born in Drayton, Ontario and was a farmer who died shortly after Harry had enlisted, his mother, Emma having died previously. There was also a sister, Sarah J Amy who married a Mr. Clayton Cunningham. The schools Harry attended were the Grenfell Public School between 1920 - 1929, Saskatoon Technical Collegiate 1932-1933 and Saskatoon City Park Collegiate 1933-1937. He was also at the University of Saskatchewan during 1934 and again 1939-40 where he was a student Engineer gaining a B.E. (Batchelor Of Science, Mechanical Engineering). His subjects were Theory of Flight, Meteorology and Aerial Navigation. Harry worked at YAMA Gold Mines, Boston Creek, Ontario 1937-1939. He was also a Private at COTC (Canadian Officers Training Corps), University of Saskatchewan 1933-1934. He worked for Consolidated Pulp and Paper as an engineer before Enlisting on 12 June 1943. |
After training in Canada Harry embarked from Halifax on 21 July 1943 and arrived at 3 PRC in the U.K. on 30 July 1943, then on to 6 (O) AFU on 31 August, 24 OTU on 5 October 1943 and eventually 424 Squadron on 11 March 1944. |
The sports he enjoyed were Rugby, boxing, swimming, baseball and football and photography was his hobby. |
