Reason for Loss | Crashed back onto the airfield ten minutes after take off, bursting into flames. Wreckage was spread over a wide area and a Wellington X (HE786) and a Tomahawk IIb (AK116), which were loaded on a “Queen Mary” transporter parked near No.4 Hanger, were also destroyed. Three WAAFs and one male were killed on the ground. |
