Vliegtuigcrash Avro Lancaster Mk.I, W4256 ZN-V, 106 Sqn Waddenzee circa 2 km ten oosten van Hippolytushoef. Op 25 Juni 1943 om 23.00 ur was de Lancaster bommenwerper opgestegen van vliegeld Syerston (Nottinghamshire) in England met aan boord zeven bemanningsleden. De Lancaster was op een missie naar de Duitse stad Gelsenkirchen om de raffinaderien van synthetische olie van Scholven-Buer te bombarderen. In de nacht verloor 106 squadron vier vliegtuigen in één missie. De zware bommenwerper W4256 had drieënvijftig missies uitgevoerd totdat deze door en Duitse nachtjager werd neergeschoten om 02.31 ur op 26 Jun
Translation "Aircraft crash Avro Lancaster Mk.I, W4256 ZN-V, 106 Sqn Wadden Sea approximately 2 km east of Hippolytushoef. On June 25, 1943 at 11 p.m. the Lancaster bomber took off from Syerston airfield (Nottinghamshire) in England with seven crew members on board. The Lancaster was on a mission to the German city of Gelsenkirchen to bomb the synthetic oil refineries of Scholven-Buer. During the night, 106 squadron lost four planes in one mission. The heavy bomber W4256 had carried out fifty-three missions until it was shot down by a German nightfighter at 02.31 on 26 June" |
