Cette plaque a été voulue par les familles de l'équipage du Lancaster ME685, la Ville de Toulouse et l'Association Aérocherche. Elle a été inaugurée le 6 avril 2024. Dans la nuit du 5 au 6 avril 1944, vers minuit et demie, 141 bombardiers Lancaster de la Royal Air Force larguent leurs bombes sur les usines Bréguet de Montaudran qui, réquisitionnées par l'occupant, effectuent des réparations pour la Luftwaffe. Un seul appareil est touché par la DCA Allemande et explose en plein vol: c'est le ME685 du squadron 207, immatriculé EM C commandé par l'adjudant John Senior. Les sept membres d'équipage seront tués dans l'explosion. Ils ont été inhumés dans le cimetière de La Fourguette le 8 avril 1944.
Translation "This plaque was created by the families of the crew of Lancaster ME685, the city of Toulouse and the Aérocherche Association. It was inaugurated on April 6 2024. In the early hours of April 6 1944, at around half past midnight, 141 RAF Lancaster bombers dropped their bombs on the Bréguet factories in Montaudran which, having been requisitioned by the occupying forces, carried out repairs for the Luftwaffe. One aircraft was hit by German flak, exploding in mid air: ME685 EM-C, from 207 Squadron, commanded by Warrant Officer John "Ray" Senior. All seven crew members were killed. They are buried in La Fourquette cemetery." |
