Reason for Loss | Aircraft took off from Saltby at 0420 hrs for a night flying exercise. The Wellington crashed at 0650 hrs about 1 mile NE of Sproxton, 8 miles from Melton Mowbray Leicestershire. A fire broke out and the bomber was totally destroyed. Eye -witnesses state that the bomber appeared to bank steeply after overshooting and then stalled from a height estimated of around 800 feet |
