Reason for Loss | After completing the tour of duty he was transferred to serve as an Instructor at an Air Gunnery School where, in October 1944, he was giving instruction to a Rear Gunner in a Wellington aircraft operating near Hull. There was a collision with a Spitfire taking part in the exercise and both planes crashed. F/O Walker was last seen trying to get the air gunner (P/O Weed) out of the rear turret. Both crashed to the ground with their aircraft. |
