Miscellaneous Information
Born 6 November 1919, Nelson, New Zealand. William had been a pupil at Nelson College 1934-35, he had worked as a meter repairer for the Nelson City Council. His mother was born in Olrig, Caithness, Scotland, she married Roy in Olrig in January 1919 and sailed from Plymouth to New Zealand in May 1919. Roy had been wounded in France in 1916 and it appears that they may have met whilst he was in hospital recovering from his wounds. |

Reason for Loss | Aircraft took off from Waddington at 2349 hrs detailed to attack targets in Hamburg. Shot down by a night-fighter flown by Lt. Ernst Weiss of 1./NJG3 at 0324 hrs. Aircraft crashed onto pastere land belonging to a farmer by the name of Jakob at Ristedter Moor near Vechta, 15 kms SSW of Bremen. |
