Miscellaneous Information
Donald was born on 2 October 1920 at Bengough, Saskatchewan. His father was born in Kenmare, North Dakota, USA and his mother in Siston, South Dakota. His father was a farmer. He had a brother, Glen Norman and a baby sister had died on 7 September 1935. He attended Coney Island school 1926-1932, followed by Bengough High School in Saskatchewan, 1932-1936. He had also attended Commercial High 1937-1938 in Regina on a stenographer course. He enjoyed playing tennis, golf, baseball and curling and he enjoyed music. Donald worked for the Canadian Bank of Commerce, Saskatchewan 1938-1939 and transferred to Gilbert Plains where he was a Ledger man and Teller, 1939-1940. |
He enlisted on 5 November 1940 and after training was posted to the U.K. where he arrived on 16 August 1941. He was at 27 OTU 25 August 1941, 20 OTU 16 September 1941, 19 OTU 22 September, December 102 Sqn 21 December 1941 and 22 OTU on 12 May 1942. Sadly Donald was to lose his life from 22 OTU on 25 June 1942. |
