Miscellaneous Information
Anthony was born in Binscarth, Manitoba on 5 November 1915 where his father was a Section Foreman. Both parents were born in Austria. He was from a family of seven sons (in age order)- Murray was in the navy, as was Julian, Frank was in the army overseas, Stanley was also in the navy. The younger two, Edward and Lawrence were both still at home. Anthony went to Binscarth Public school 1922-1926 (General course ). Followed by Russell school 1927- 1933. He completed Grade 11 and gained his Junior Matric. His sport interests were hockey, baseball and general athletics. He also spent a year in Youth training and played in a band. Anthony had several seasonal odd jobs between 1933-1936 including mechanics but mainly worked as a newspaper Salesman between 1937-1940. |
He enlisted on 21 October 1940 and after training embarked for the U.K., arriving at 3 PRC on 21 January 1942. He was at 2(0) AFU on 24 February 1942 and 22 OTU on 28 April 1942. |
The Manitoba government named a lake after Flight Sgt Yankoski. It is located at 59o 45'49" N - 96o 02'16"W. Yankoski Lake. |
