Le 31 Juillet 1944, à 23h35, lors d'un raid nocturne sur la forêt de Nieppe, le bombardier Lancaster III LM585 HW-S s'écrasa dans des circonstances inconnues. Aucun des sept membres d'équipage ne survécut à l'accident.
