Reason for Loss | Lost in the vicinity of Issime, cause unknown. But it has been reported that an aircraft crashed high in the mountains near Issime, in val d‘Aosta, and that this aircraft may have been LM339. In 2001, information was obtained that a Lancaster had crashed on the Monte Rosa (Mont Rose cliffs), near the village of Issime, Italy, in early August 1943. Further investigation of all the Lancaster losses for August 1943 against Milan showed that LM339‘s crash-site was unconfirmed. With no other losses recorded that match the criteria given it is to be assumed that LM339 is the one in question. |
