| John died in 1932, aged just 37, when Norman was 8 years old. He had served in The Royal Artillery in the first war and had been employed as the Timber Leader at a Ripon Timber Merchants. Daisy married William Rutherford in Ripon in 1939. Norman was one of four Skirrow siblings. Freda Skirrow, their first child, died in 1935 aged 3. Barbara (1926) married RCAF Rear Gunner F/O Arthur Bruce Cable DFM, of 424 Squadron, in Ripon on 3 March 1945 and emigrated to live in Big Valley, Alberta. Fourth child Dennis was born in 1928. Norman was educated at Holy Trinity Schools and Cathedral Boys School and prior to enlisting into the RAF he worked for a department store in Ripon and had joined Ripon ATC. |
