Miscellaneous Information
George was born on 28 November 1910 at Kensington, Prince Edward Island. His father, a Vet, was born on P.E.I. and his mother also at Kensington, P.E.I. His parents had divorced and he had one half brother, William, and three half sisters: Elizabeth, Lucy and Lydia. Georgegave his next of kin as his grandmother, Mrs. Lydia Sims, on his enlistment papers. He attended Kensington High School 1918-1927. His sport interests were baseball, swimming and bowling. George worked at the Matchless Fax Company as a Ranchman between 1927 and 1929, at the Bank of Nova Scotia as an Office Clerk 1929-1940 and then at Defence Industries, also as an Office Clerk from 1940 onwards until enlisting. |
He enlisted on 3 December 1942 at Winnipeg and after training was posted to the U.K., embarking from Halifax on 22 October 1943. He arrived at 3 RCAF(PRC) on 31 October 1943, 28 OTU 23 November 1943, 11 Base 24 April 1944, and 576 Squadron 14 June 1944. George sadly lost his life from 576 Squadron on 15 July 1944. |
