Henry was born at Eastview, Ottawa on 31 July 1913. His father was a painter and was born at Ottawa and his mother, who was deceased by the time of Henry's enlistment, was born in Wales. He had brothers Albert and Oliver. He attended King John P.S. school in Peterborough between 1924-1927 (entrance), Peterborough Collegiate Institute, Ontario, 1927-1933 (general) and Peterborough Normal School 1933-1934 (Extra Mural and Summer school). The sports Henry participated in occasionally were softball, basketball and soccer and his hobby, carving and modelling. Henry was a Public School teacher and worked for William Drummond, R.R.# 8, Peterborough, between 1935-1937. Then Ralph Godfrey R.R.# 2, Keene, 1937-1941 and then at the Board of Education between 1941-1942, after which he enlisted on 9 July 1942. |
After enlisting and initial training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 13 September 1943 arriving at 3PRC on 20 September 1943. He then went on to 3 (0) AFU on 2 November 1943, 14 OTU 25 January 1944, 51 Base 3 May 1944, 1661 CU 26 May 1944, 619 Sqn 28 July 1944 and 189 Squadron on 15 October 1944. Henry lost his life on 22 December 1944 |
