Le 4 Mars 1943, l'équipage de Lancaster ED559 (Code JA-D du n° 100 Sqn, RAF) a quitté la RAF Grimsby à 18.38 heures. Leur mission était d'abandonner les mines de mer dans l'estuaire de la Gironde. L'avion a disparu et le corps de Richard Curle a ensuite été récupére de la mer et inhumé dans ce cimetière. Le reste de l'équipage ont pas de sépulture connue
Translation "On the 4th March 1943, the crew of 100 Sqn Lancaster ED559 JA-D of 100 Sqn RAF, took off from RAF Grimsby at 1838 hours. Their mission was to drop sea mines into the Gironde Estuary. The aircraft disappeared and only Richard Curle's body was later recovered from the sea and interred in this cemetery. The remaining crew have no known grave." |
