Last Operation Information
Start Date | 28-03-1944 |
End Date | 28-03-1944 |
Takeoff Station | Manston |
Day/Night Raid | Day |
Operation | Flight to Manston during daylight hours- it is not clear from the ORB for what purpose |
Reason for Loss | Crashed on return to base, killing the pilot P/O K L Porter and a passenger, Cpl Wilfred Linley. According to the monthly summary in the 9 Sqn ORB, the remaining crew sustained injuries of various degrees. Since Porter was Baird's skipper on the last known operation (26th March to Essen) it is reasonable to assume that Baird was one of the occupants and subsequently died of his injuries. |
