| Born 10 October 1915 in South Wales as Lawson Cuthbert Philpott, registered in Bedwellty, Monmouthshire. Brother of Kathleen Joyce (born 1917), John Roland (1919) and Beatrice Alice Philpott (1920) |
| His father James was a Baker & Confectioner. Both he and Beatrice were born in Cradley, Malvern. Their first three children were born in South Wales. James and Beatrice, the eldest two, were baptised together in 1918 in Hampton, Worcestershire, at which time the family were living at 14 New Road, Hampton. In the 1921 Census they are at Heath Gap, Fradley, Staffordshire and James works for the Co-Op at Tamworth. They moved to Birmingham in the early 1930s and by the time of the 1939 Register they are at 2 Burlington Road, Small Heath, Birmingham. Beatrice is widowed by this time. |
