| Reason for Aircraft Loss | Aircraft suffered icing whilst flying through dense cloud over the Irish Sea. Crew ordered to bail out but only Champion and Mushet obliged. The aircraft made a safe return to base with the remainder of the crew aboard, unharmed. Following an extensive five day search, no trace was found of either airman. The aircraft continued in use until it crashed with the loss of all crew on 11 April 1944, still on the strength of No. 30 OTU. |
