Op deze plaats is tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog, op 29 Juni 1943, een Britse Lancaster bommenwerper neergestort. De Lancaster III ED362 HW-E for Easy was op de terugweg naar Engeland, na een bombardement op Keulen. Het toestel werd door een Duits jachtvliegtuig aangeschoten, waarna het op deze plats neerstorte. Zes van de Britse en Canadese bemanningsleden, van wie de namen zijn vermeld op de gedenksteen, zin daarbij om het leven gekomen.
Translation "During the Second World War, on 29 June 1943, a British Lancaster bomber crashed at this location. The Lancaster III ED362 HW-E for Easy was on its way back to England after a bombing raid on Cologne. The aircraft was shot at by a German fighter plane, after which it crashed at this location. Six of the British and Canadian crew members, whose names are mentioned on the memorial stone, were killed." |
