Miscellaneous Information
John was born at Montreal on 7 June 1922. His father was born in New York and was an inspector and his mother was born in Montreal. He had two brothers Owen and Andrew as well as four sisters, Patricia, Katherine and Dorothy. The fourth sister Eileen died in 1945. He attended the Luke Callaghan school in Montreal between 1931 and 1938 (7th grade) and then at the High School, 1938-1940. His sporting interests were baseball, football, hockey, skiing, skating and boxing. John worked for a short while at C.S.L. Company in the office, during 1940 for four months until they closed and then worked at the Chamber Of Commerce, also working in the office between 1940-1942. Both in Montreal. |
He enlisted on 25 May 1942 and after training embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 30 June 1943. He arrived at 3PRC on 8 July 1943 then went to 6 (0) AFU 10 August 1943, 17 OTU 7 September 1943, 51 Base 9 December 1943 and 630 Squadron on 29 March 1944. It was from there that John sadly lost his life on 22 June1944 |
