Miscellaneous Information
Frederick was born on 8 September 1913 at Edmonton, Alberta. His father was born at Advocate Harbour, Nova Scotia and was a Mining Engineer and his mother was born at Berwick. He had two brothers: Lt. Com. John Pineo Dewis and F/L Marshall Woodworth Dewis, RCAF Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He attended Canmore School in Alberta 1919-1926 and continuing in 1926-1930. He also went to the University of Alberta 1930-1933 (Batchelor of Commerce - accounts) then La Salle Extension 1934-1935 (diploma of Higher Accounting). Sports interests were hockey, skating swimming and golf. He spent 11 years at various offices working as a clerk including office clerk, receiving clerk and bookkeeper among others. |
He then enlisted on 30 June 1942 and after initial training was sent to the U.K. He embarked from Halifax on 16 May 1943 arriving at 3 PRC on 24 May before going on to 3 (0) AFU 10 August 1943, 17 OTU 7 September 1943, 51 Base 9 December 1943, and 630 Squadron 29 March 1944. Sadly Frederick was to lose his life on 22 June 1944. |
