Miscellaneous Information
| Donald was born on 14 August 1921 at Verdun, PQ. His parents were both born in Newfoundland, his father in Bauline and he worked as a chief clerk for Sun Life Assurance. He had three siblings: a sister M. Joyce, a brother F. Kenneth and another brother, H. Gordon who was on active service with the R.C.N V.R. Donald's schooling was at La Salle Road School, 1927-1933 (elementary), Verdun High School, 1933-1938 (science grade X1) and Westmount 1938-1939 (Science and commerce). He then attended McGill University 1939-1941 (Commerce)- all in Montreal. Donald’s sport interests were hockey, basketball and softball. He then enlisted on 28 May 1941. |
| After enlistment and early training he embarked from Canada on 25 April 1942, arriving at 3PRC in the U.K. on 9 May 1942. From here he went to 10(0) AFU on 5 June 1942, and 22 OTU on 7 July 1942. Sadly on 14 September 1942 Donald was to lose his life. |
