Miscellaneous Information
Curtis was born at Baden, Ontario on 25 February 1926. Both parents were born in Baden and his father worked as a Box Maker. He had brothers Wallace, Nyle and the Revd. Rufus Jutzi and a sister, Lauretta. He attended Baden Public School 1933-1941. He was then in the Scottish Fusiliers of Canada, Kitchener, Ontario from 1942 onwards. Curtis had a variety of work which included working in the Cutting room of a shoe company; in the leather room of Valentine Martin for one year; helping in Purity Dairy for four months; then servicing gas masks at the Merchant Rubber Co. and finally spending four months in a Varnish room of McBrine Baggage (all in Kitchener). |
He enlisted on 27 August 1943 (aged seventeen) and after initial training embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 16 June 1944. He arrived at 3 RCAF PRC on 25 June 1944 and 22 OTU on 25 July 1944. It was just one month after this that Curtis was to lose his life at the age of eighteen years. |
