Miscellaneous Information
Lawrence was born at Beamsville, Ontario on 28 August 1919. Both parents were born in England and his father was a farmer. He went to the Central Public School in Hamilton until 1932 ( Entrance) and then Westdale Collegiate Institute, Hamilton 1932-1935. He then attended De La Salle, at Oaklands, Toronto 1936-1937 (Jnr. Matric). Lawrence sometimes played football and baseball, he was a year round member of the YMCA and enjoyed building models. He also collected musical records. He worked as a clerk at J.P. Maher Shoe Stores 1937-1940 and then enlisted on 16 December 1940. |
After initial training Lawrence embarked from Canada for the U.K. on 28 September 1941 and arrived at 3PRC on 14 October 1941. He went on to 21 OTU on 4 November 1941, 27 OTU 8 December 1941, 25 OTU 29 January 1942 and finally 9 Squadron on 2 October 1942. Sadly, on 10 December 1942, Lawrence lost his life. |
