| Donald was born on 6 Feb 1916 at Perth, Ontario. His father was a Spring maker born in Gananoque, Ontario and his mother born in Perth, Ontario. He had a brother Richard Edward and five sisters. One was married, the other four were Jane, Franes, Ann and Clare. The schools Donald attended were St. Vincent De Paul, Toronto 1926-1930, followed by Oshawa Collegiate and Vocational Institute 1930-1935. The main sports he took part in were skating and swimming as well as hockey and baseball. Donald worked for Oshawa Railway as a Freight Trains conductor from 1936 and was still there until enlisting on 17 November 1942. |
