Dans la nuit du 27 au 28 Avril 1944 est tombé non loin d'ici, le Lancaster LL903 du 166 Sqn de la RAF. Cinq des membres de l'équipage furent tués dans le crash, deux furent faits prisonniers. Ce Lancaster fut abattu par un avion de la chasse de nuit allemande piloté par l'Oberleutnant Léopold Fellerer du Stab 2/NJG 5. Le pilote du Lancaster, Douglas Bridges, qui a survécu au crash malgré de graves brûlures, est revenu régulièrement dans les années 90-2000 sur le lieu du crash et su cimetière de Heiferen pour rendre hommage à ses camarades du Lancaster. Translation "On the night of April 27-28, 1944, Lancaster LL903 of No. 166 Sqn, RAF, crashed not far from here. Five crew members were killed in the crash, and two were taken prisoner. This Lancaster was shot down by a German night fighter piloted by Oblt Leopold Fellerer of Stab 2/NJG 5. The Lancaster's pilot, Douglas Bridges, who survived the crash despite severe burns, regularly returned to the crash site and the Heiferen cemetery in the 1990s and 2000s to pay tribute to his Lancaster comrades.
