Reason for Loss | While over Scotland, one of the props began to windmill. Three attempts were made to put the Stirling down at Port Ellen airfield. While making fourth approach the bomber crashed at 2137 near the Watch Office. Of the seven airmen onboard five perished in the crash. Two were injured, one succumbing to his injuries the following day. |
