Reason for Loss | Crashed just outside of Plungar, Nottinghamshire while trying to land at Langar airfield, having aborted landings elsewhere due to fog. A Plungar resident, Dennis Kirk, who was on air-raid duty on the night of the incident, later recalled that he had heard the aircraft overhead with at least one engine misfiring. He was the first on the scene of the crash and firmly believed that the aircraft had run out of fuel on the approach and that the pilot had used what momentum remained to steer the aircraft clear of the village to prevent civilian deaths. |
