| Reason for Aircraft Loss | Killed by sharpnel from enemy flak, encountered soon after crossing the French coast near Dieppe on the outbound journey. The rest of the crew were unaware until after the bombing run. The aircraft made a safe return to Selsey Bill (the nearest airfield available) in the hope of getting urgent medical attention for Sgt. Graves but it was already too late. The aircraft was damaged only superficially and returned to ops three nights later. |
