Le 16 Juillet, 1944 à minuit, á 500 mètres de cette stèle, une vague d'ávions Avro Lancaster comportant 104 appareils se dirige vers Nevers. Au dessus de ce site, 2 bombardiers se heurtent en plein vol. Il n’y ent aucan survivant dans l’explosion qui suivit. Alnsi moururent 15 garcons agés de 18 a 35 ans, Ils reposent depuis sur notre sol et chaque annèe nous commemorons leur souvenir.
Translation "On July 16, 1944, at midnight, 500 meters from this stele, a wave of Avro Lancaster airplanes consisting of 104 aircrafts was towards Nevers. Above this site, 2 bombers collided in their flight. There were no survivors in the explosion that followed. This is how 15 young men, between the ages of 18 and 35 years, died. Since then, they rest on our soil and each year we honour their memory." |

Accident du 16 Juillet 1944 Chaque année, en juillet, la population de Lignières-de-Touraine et la Municipalité rendent hommage à 15 jeunes soldats alliés qui ont péri le 16 juillet 1944 dans un accident d'avions sur la butte de Marnay. En effet, leurs corps reposent dans le cimetière de notre commune - très loin de leur patrie - et les Ligniérois se font un devoir dhonorer et de fleurir leurs tombes depuis plus de 70 ans.
Translation "Accident of July 16, 1944 - Every year in July, the population of Lignières-de-Touraine and the Municipality pay homage to 15 young Allied soldiers who perished on 16 July, 1944, in an air crash on the hilltop of Marnay. Indeed, their corpses rest in the cemetery of our village - very far from their homeland - and Lignières-de-Touraine's inhabitants have made a point of honoring and flowering their graves for more than 70 years." |
