Miscellaneous Information
Alan was born on 24 September 1920 at Montreal, Quebec. His father, a manager, was born in Scotland and his mother in England. The schools Alan attended were John Ross Robertson, Public School 1926-1934 (Entrance). Lawrence Park Collegiate Institue, N.T.C.I. 1934-1940 (graduation) and Central Commerce, Night school, 1940-1941 ( Air Theory and Navigation). All schools were in North Toronto. He had High School Entrance and Jnr. matric. As Alan was still a Student he took on odd jobs and was involved with flying as a hobby. The sports he enjoyed were many including hockey, football, basketball, fencing etc. |
He enlisted on 25 April 1941 and after training embarked for the U.K. on 24 January 1942. He arrived at 3PRC on 10 February 1942 and then 2 (P) AFU 13 April 1942, 19 OTU 30 June 1942, 1654 CU 17 September 1942 and 9 (1X) Squadron on 3 October 1942. |
