Miscellaneous Information
Marcus was born on 10 January 1910 in London, England. His father, who died in 1918, was born in New York and had worked as a designer, his mother was born in Willesden Green, London, England. He had two sisters, Marjorie and Phyllis. He attended Earl Grey Public School 1915-1923, Montreal Technical Institute 1923-1939 which covered subjects such as electricity, mechanical drawing, metal work etc. and then during 1928-1939 he took a course with the ICS on aeroplane design (International Correspondence School). His sport interest were swimming, tennis, paddling and skiing and as a hobby he enjoyed boating and motor driving. Marcus worked in several jobs from 1926 onwards pertaining to becoming a draughtsman. During 1923-1926 he was working as an office boy and then became a metal shop and tinsmith's apprentice. After that he went to work for the Dominion Engineering Company and also their Oilcloth and Lino Company from 1928 until 1940 as both draughtsman and mechanical draughtsman. |
