Born 5 May 1913, Brussels
A painting of G. de Menten de Horne and his Lancaster was created in Sint-Truiden on the 'Menten de Horneplein' by a number of young local graffiti artists. The artwork is based on a legend that tells how the Brustem base, which was occupied by the Germans, was constantly attacked at night by a mysterious aircraft. Prevention officer Erik Jamar stated during the inauguration: “The graffiti artists based their work on the story of the ghost pilot using authentic photos and sketches. A typical Haspengouw apple tree symbolizes the veterans: their wisdom, history, and experiences are passed on to future generations through the fruit.”
His brother Eric was executed by the Germans as a resistance fighter.
