Reason for Loss | Aircraft took off from Skellingthorpe at 1825 hrs detailed to attack targets in Turin. Having completed the operation, the crew had diverted to Gibraltar low on fuel, missed its ETA and had been presumed lost over the sea or ditched. Last heard of at 2305 hrs transmitting "Making forced landing in position 3610N 0520W". It transpired that the Lancaster had come down NE of Fez near Aknoul at Taza, French Morocco, there were no survivors. |
