Miscellaneous Information
| A statement by F/O Fordyce, who became a PoW, reveals that the aircraft was attacked by two enemy aircraft and was shot down into the sea. Crompton was severely wounded in the attack but refused to leave his turret. When the aircraft crashed into the sea, the other crew members were unable to release him from the turret. Fordyce was later involved in the Great Escape. |
