Miscellaneous Information
Rae was born on 3 January 1923 at Toronto, Ontario. His father, who was deceased by the time of Rae's enlistment, was a railway worker born in England and his mother was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He had a sister Verna Viola Collins, although it is later shown in his records that his rightful mother was his sister Verna, but his grandmother took him on shortly after birth and he was brought up as her son. He attended Earl Kitchener Public School, Toronto 1933-1937 followed by Eastern Commerce, Toronto 1937-1939 (Accountancy). His sport interests were hockey, rugby and softball. Rae worked for the Stork Label Co. Toronto. as a Shipper, 1939-1940, for York Trading Ltd. Toronto as an office boy in 1940 then for Drummond, McColl & Co, Toronto as a Shipping Clerk 1940-1941. He then enlisted on 16 March 1942. |
After training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 26 January 1943, arriving at 3PRC on 5 February .
